At Franceschi Frenchies, breeding is more than just producing puppies—it’s a carefully planned process backed by over 30 years of experience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the French Bulldog breed. Every single pairing is meticulously chosen to uphold the highest standards of genetic health, temperament, and structure, ensuring that each puppy has the best start in life.
The Importance of Health and Genetic Testing
From the very beginning, Franceschi Frenchies has prioritized genetic health testing, making it a cornerstone of our breeding program. Both our male and female dogs undergo extensive screening, including:
✔ Full genetic health testing
✔ Up-to-date vaccinations and deworming
✔ Annual wellness checks
✔ AKC DNA certification for our studs
With seven generations of genetically tested dogs, we stand as a trusted source for healthy, well-structured French Bulldogs. Every breeding decision we make takes into account a range of factors, including compatibility, health, conformation, temperament, size, activity level, and genetic markers.
Selecting the Perfect Pair
As reputable French Bulldog breeders, we believe that breeding responsibly means ensuring that both parents complement each other in every way. The dam contributes 65% of the genetic makeup of the litter, while the stud provides 35%. That’s why selecting the right sire is just as crucial as ensuring the dam is in optimal health.
An ideal French Bulldog stud should:
- Embody the Breed Standard – Compact, muscular build with a large, square head and a smooth coat.
- Possess a Calm and Friendly Temperament – Personality traits can influence the behavior of the puppies.
- Come from a Reputable Lineage – A well-documented bloodline ensures the preservation of desirable traits.
- Have a Clean Bill of Health – Extensive genetic testing reduces the likelihood of inherited disorders.
The Breeding Process
Given the French Bulldog’s unique physical traits, breeding can be both delicate and complex. To ensure the safety of our dams and maximize success, Franceschi Frenchies relies on artificial insemination (AI)—a method that eliminates unnecessary risks while improving conception rates. The two most common AI techniques we use are:
- Standard AI – A widely used method that places semen directly into the female’s reproductive tract.
- Transcervical AI – A more advanced technique that bypasses the cervix for higher success rates.
Before breeding, progesterone tests are performed to determine the optimal timing for conception—typically between days 9-14 of the dam’s heat cycle. Timeframes can vary per dam.
Tracking Pregnancy and Ensuring Optimal Care
Once a successful breeding has taken place, our work has only just begun. We monitor our pregnant dams closely to ensure both mother and puppies are thriving. This includes:
- Early Pregnancy Detection – Ultrasounds are performed between days 30-35 after breeding to confirm pregnancy.
- Nutritional Support – The mother’s diet is carefully adjusted to support her growing litter.
- Regular Exercise & Hydration – Gentle movement and access to fresh water keep the mother in top condition.
- Radiography for Puppy Count – Around days 50-55, an X-ray is scheduled to determine the exact number of puppies, ensuring a smooth delivery process.
Exciting News: Franceschi’s Panda is Expecting!
